Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the rate-based proposal for the feedback flow control of the Available Bit Rate (ABR) service in ATM networks. With this control mechanism, the traffic sources adjust their transmission rate in response to feedback information about the status of the network nodes. The paper provides optimal values for the parameters of the control mechanism that will achieve maximum link utilization while minimizing the buffer requirement.
